How Therapy Works:
Some have described a good therapy session as a cup of coffee between two friends. While portions of this is accurate, there is so much more that goes into a successful therapeutic relationship. Together, you and your licensed professional will work closely to identify concerns, establish goals and objectives, and cooperatively develop a plan to reach those goals. How Long Therapy Lasts: The first time you meet with your therapist can feel somewhat overwhelming. Often new clients have many important concerns to share. Your mental health and priorities are important to us. For this reason, initial assessment sessions are generally scheduled between 60-120 minutes. During this time your therapist will gather additional information about depression, anxiety, and other mental health difficulties you may be experiencing. You also are given an opportunity to talk about what brings you to counseling, your concerns, past history, and goals of therapy. By completing a full bio-psycho-social evaluation, your therapist will be able to get a comprehensive idea of your priorities and concerns and develop a treatment plan that is specifically tailored to your personality, history, needs, and goals. Individually therapy sessions typically last between 55-60 minutes. The duration of therapy can vary from person to person based on needs and goals. Sometimes, only a few sessions are required for substantial growth. Others may need more time. It is a process that is tailored to each individual person to best fit them.
